In Bagel's world, a walk without sprinklers is no walk at all. That's why I built Sprinkledog - the app for tracking neighborhood sprinklers.

Here in sunny Denver, Colorado, summers get hot. At a mile high, the sun is appreciably hotter than most places in America, and that means avoiding the midday sun for a few months over the summer.

During this stretch this year, we discovered our dog's love for sprinklers. As soon as he hears the hiss, he starts pulling us toward the shimmering fountains of fun. Bagel, our dog, doesn't hesitate even a bit. He dives straight at sprinklers with his mouth open to catch all that he can. When he has been sufficiently blasted by one sprinkler, he moves on to the next. This process continues until we have visited every sprinkler, and he proudly walks away from the scene. A job well done.

It is the kind of thing that makes you smile. Every time he dives for a sprinkler, it wakes up the child inside me. Bagel finding sprinklers embodies joy. And so, I took it upon myself to ensure he finds sprinklers on every walk.

To do so, I built an app for tracking sprinkler schedules in our neighborhood. With the tap of a button, users can record the location and time of active sprinklers. Over time, the data points form a map of active sprinklers at any given time. Now, when we go out for a walk, I check for active sprinklers and set our course. The power of community harnessed by the internet has made Bagel's dreams come true.
